The Rise of Artificial Intelligence: How it is Shaping the Future

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly prominent in our lives, with more and more applications being developed to automate processes and make our lives easier. AI is being used to solve complex problems, automate mundane tasks, and even to create new forms of art.

AI is a technology used to mimic human intelligence, performing tasks and iteratively improving itself based on experience. AI can repetitively complete tasks and with this can use machine learning to understand complications that may arise and learn from this, AI can problem-solve and adjust to its surroundings just like humans, so why is it so popular all of a sudden?

AI has actually been around a lot longer than most would think, from 1957, AI has been implemented into computers and machinery, using algorithms to solve basic math problems to storing information on a computer after turning it off. However the concept of ‘deep learning’ – encouraging AI to learn from experience, wasn’t thought of until the 1980s.

The History of Artificial Intelligence

The 1980s began the AI boom, with a huge jump forward in the creation of Deep Learning techniques as well as an increase across the world in the technology behind AI. In 1997, Deep Blue was a program developed by IBM that was able to beat the world chess champion at the time, influencing another increase in funding and interest in the AI scene. Following this, in 2000, MIT developed Kismet, an emotionally intelligent robot. Kismet’s development team used child psychology as the back bone for the creation and soon was able to recognise different sounds, moves it’s ‘body’ to varying different stimuli and respond to questions.

The usage of AI has since flourished, between video gaming, virtual assistants, and Robotic Hoovers, AI has become a common feature in the household from the 2000s onward, but what’s new?

From the developments of robotics to language-processing AI, the latest AI to run onto the scene is Chat-GPT, an OpenAI Model that uses Deep Learning to answer questions, write code, create poetry and perform other writing and language tasks. While the technology isn’t any newer than previous, GPT was the first to develop written language that was almost indistinguishable from man-made content.

Artificial Intelligence in SEO

SEO requires high-quality and engaging content to boost your site up the rankings, this is where AI can come in handy, with its language processing models, AI can be used to write content ideas and suggestions whilst also recommending spelling and readability improvements to ensure your site is accessible to all.

Here at Showroom Network, we use AI to track trends so we know exactly what to talk about and when to put your website at the top of the rankings. While we also optimise your site for Local-SEO, using AI algorithms to analyse geographical data and track local trends to ensure you’re ahead of your competitors.

Is AI right for your business?

In short, AI can be used basically anywhere and everywhere, but it’s not without it’s downsides, the usage of AI to create content can cause content to be repetitive and boring, and sometimes can read badly, AI can also occasionally include incorrect stats and figures so it’s important to always proofread content prior to publishing. Rankings of AI content are very rarely punished currently just for being AI-generated, however, rankings can be impacted by a site’s domain authority score – determined by how old a site is among many other criteria, as well as things like quality of the content and the relevance of the content for the entire site. While AI can mean more spam and abuse online – it’s quicker to push this content with AI, Google seemingly doesn’t want to punish AI content as some of it can be useful and a good read. Google will need to increase its algorithms to catch out incorrect, faulty or abusive text while still allowing content that suits a website and is relevant to rank.

So before you decide to make all your content with the latest creative tools – like Chat-GPT- why not contact us here at Showroom Network to see content creation and speak to the team to get your site to the top of Google.
